The main Qualification for writting the GATE test candidates is

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Architecture(4 year after 10,plus two)
Master degree holders in Science/Mathematics/statics/computer application or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programe.
Post-B.Sc in Engineering/Technology or in the 3rd or higher year of 5 year Integrated master degree and Dual Degree programe in Engineering/Technology.
Candidate with qualification got by through UPSC/AICTE.
Candiate with MHRD fellowship for 24 months.

After GATE ?

Those who are got Higher grade in GATE,He/She can apply MHRD and other government Scholarships/assistantships in Engineering Colleges/Institute. Next choice is Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Architecture student can apply for master/doctoral degree in equivalent stream. candidate with master degree can apply for PhD programmes with Scholarships/assistantships . Qualified candidate also eligible for the award of junior research fellowship (JRF) in CSIR laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Higher rank candidates can apply for the CSIR awards.Some Government organization like BARC (Bhabha Atomic reserach centre) take employees based the GATE score.
